Now that you have completed an interview, what would you do differently next time you need to do an interview?
I actually wasn’t at my groups interview, I did make up for it by transcribing more of the interview and writing and editing body paragraphs for our final project. So even though I missed the actual interview, I interacted with it more than many. The thing that bugged me the most that I would certainly change in a future interview interview was the fact that we didn’t get all the names of family members that our interviewee talked about. This made it really hard to make body paragraphs for our final projects. In my next interview, I would definitely make sure I have names of all the people our interviewee talks about and I have permission to use those names.
Another thing I would change in a future interview, or in this case Oral History Project, is how we used the recordings of our interview. In this OHP, we didn’t use any recordings of any of the interviews. Even though we did a magazine, I still think that finding ways to incorporate those recordings would have made our final project better. In my opinion, it means a lot more to hear someone talk about their experience in Harvey than reading it on a document/magazine. This isn’t as vital as the first issue I brought up, but I think it would have improved our work.
